Kia Provides First Look at All-New 2021 Kia Sorento

October 6th, 2020 by

While compact SUVs can be handy and practical, they're not often suitable for larger families. This is mostly because compact models typically have two rows. The Kia Sorento aims to deliver the best of both worlds, with three rows of seating and a convenient physical footprint that's ideal for navigating crowded streets and tight spaces. It's an excellent option for Diamond Bar and Chino families who need the extra seatbelts but can't accommodate the space requirements of a large SUV. And for the 2021 model year, the Kia Sorento is fully refreshed and better than ever. Here's a look at some of the most intriguing attributes of the fourth-generation Sorento.

Telluride Style for Less

The 2021 Kia Sorento borrows design cues from its larger sibling, the multi-award-winning Telluride. It features clean lines, muscular sculpting, and an aggressive front fascia highlighted by a wide grille with integrated Tiger eye headlamps. Kia positioned Sorento's A-pillar slightly to the rear, giving it a sporty, swept-back look. And strong character lines, bold style cues, and a broad-shouldered stance complete the assertive and sophisticated aesthetic.

Additionally, Kia has lengthened the wheelbase slightly, increasing rear-seat legroom and cargo capacity.

New Engines

The 2021 Sorento scraps its four-cylinder and V-6 engines, replacing them with four available potent and efficient powerplants, including two hybrids.

2.5-liter four-cylinder: The new base engine generates 191 horsepower and 182 pound-feet of torque, an increase of six hp and four lb-ft from the previous standard engine. It's paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder: The available upgrade produces 281 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque, an increase of 59 lb-ft over the previous V-6. Paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic, it achieves a Kia-estimated increase of three mpg combined.

Turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder traditional hybrid: Paired with a 44-kW motor, this 227 horsepower promises to significantly improve efficiency.

Turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder plug-in hybrid: Paired with a 66.9-kW motor, the plug-in hybrid boosts output to 261 horsepower. Kia claims it can travel up to 30 miles on a full charge before switching to gas.

Well Equipped

The Sorento adorns its upscale interior with premium features like a rotary shifter, an available 10.3-inch infotainment system, and an available 12.3-inch digital instrument display. Other options include quilted leather upholstery, textured metal inlays, and open-pore wood trim.

The 2021 Kia Sorento will come standard with collision mitigation, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, and rear-occupant alert.
